Fright Fest 2020

A full moon on Halloween and the end of daylight savings time all coincided in the middle of the 2020 Fright Fest Tournament hosted by Foothills Hockey Association.

The way that the calendars lined up for this year’s tournament wasn’t the only thing that was a little bit different about it.  In the midst of an ever-changing COVID-19 environment, Fright Fest games held at Foothills Ice Arena were played without spectators. Two divisions in each of three age groups faced off from Thursday afternoon through Sunday evening.

Through our partnership with Foothills Hockey Association, Shaw Hockey Productions was able to offer an attractive per game cost to teams as well as make consolation and championship games available at no additional charge to participating teams. We provided video coverage and live streaming for 32 games across the 10U, 12U, and 14U divisions. 

While families, fans, and friends weren’t able to watch the games in-person, there were several activities going on outside the rink.  Friday night featured a “Back to Hockey” night with food truck service from The Grilled Cheese Cart and North of the Border Grill for a BYOC (Bring Your Own Chair) event in the Foothills back parking lot.

Saturday afternoon featured a “Trunk or Treat” event where players and siblings were invited to dress up and trunk-or-treat through the back parking lot of Foothills Ice Arena. Prizes were awarded for the best costume as well as the best-decorated trunk.  Congratulations to Deanne Deckers (best trunk) and Lucas Lipsky, Logan Cole, and Michaela Kessy (best costume).
